Nina and Nina are two ambitious women with great smiles who bring happiness to their children at the creative nursery, Art Village Nursery. Keep reading to find out how they manage and what they do to make it a very special place.

Nina Farokhfal, Owner and Managing Director of Art Village Nursery, tells us that opening the first nursery in the UAE with a Swedish curriculum was a challenge, but the biggest accomplishment has been to create a nursery that is true to my beliefs of a good educational system. A system where children are able to develop and learn without any pressure.

Considering all the must-dos and must-haves in today’s society, we tend to put a lot of pressure on our children with different lists of development and things they need to learn at a very young age. Nursery schools therefore promote their organizations to teach children how to read and write by the age of two, and promise parents to make their children to become little geniuses. Almost like we want our children to become professors before they even start school. Teachers are therefore forced to teach children how to memorize and store lots of information rather than teaching them to develop strong imagination, and how to build their self-esteem and confidence. Things that are by far more important than learning letters and numbers.

Nina is an innovative and results-driven business leader focused on achieving exceptional results in highly competitive environments. She has a strong understanding in the early years education and is passionate about creating an environment for children that is inspiring and creative.

Nina has a Bachelor’s of Art’s degree in Child & Adolescent Development from California State University, Northridge (USA). She has CACHE Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for health, Social Care, Children and Young People’s Services from England. Also, she has been trained by the Reggio Emilia Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

At Art Village Nursery, located in Jumeirah 2 we work according to the Swedish preschool curriculum and Reggio Emilia philosophy, and offer a safe and healthy environment that fosters children’s physical, intellectual, psychological, social, emotional and creative development. We have an educational approach where we strive to create a democratic environment where the children are allowed to be themselves. Children have an unbelievable desire to learn and investigate. To investigate is to learn and it is the key to knowledge. It is our duty to help children in their quest for knowledge. We do this by working to increase their self-confidence and self-esteem. It is important that on every occasion to show children that they can and are capable. We follow the children in their footsteps as they discover and learn. We don’t solve tasks for the child, but instead we encourage the child to solve the problem for him- and herself.

If children continuously listen to, and do, as adults say then the next generation will only follow our way of thinking and the world will therefore not develop to its optimum. We strongly believe that our educational approach is the best tool to change the world for the better, and a world of change must begin with our children, the new generation.

But it is not enough to have just one Nina at Art Village, Nina Pätäri, who is the Nursery Manager has spent most of her 20-year long career in Sweden teaching preschool students, children from age 1 to 6 years. She has also long experience of working with 5 to 6 years old children preparing them for elementary school. Nina has a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Education, with an intercultural profile, from Södertörn University in Stockholm.

In the early years of Nina’s career, she was trained by Stockholm Reggio Emilia Institute and has ever since worked in Reggio Emilia inspired preschools. She visited Italy and the city of Reggio Emilia 15 years ago to gain more profound knowledge of the philosophy. The Reggio Emilia philosophy has ever since become more of a lifestyle for her, always being passionate and curious for the individual child, creating respectful learning environments for all children.

Nina has a big interest in Art, believing in children’s natural need to create and express through art. Nina has been working in the UAE since 2015 in preschool management and implementing the Reggio Emilia philosophy in school organizations. She has been part of the Art Village team since June 2017, where she has been supporting her amazing staff through weekly training about the Swedish curriculum, Child Development, and the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
